Major D1 Streets to be Closed Off for Fire Drill This Weekend

It will be a bit harder than usual to navigate District 1 Saturday morning as Saigon will be holding a major fire drill necessitating the closure of a number of major streets.

According to the Department of Transport, the drill will occur at Vincom B on Dong Khoi Street. Although the official drill is scheduled for Saturday, routes around Vincom had already been blocked off on Thursday, reports Tuoi Tre.

The scenario calls for the rescue of 700 people from a fire at the popular shopping center. 2,000 from police, firefighters and military personnel will be involved in the drill.

Given the large scale, no vehicle traffic will be allowed in the vicinity of Vincom B on Dong Khoi Street, between Nguyen Du and Le Loi streets, as well as Ly Tu Trong Street (between Pasteur and Hai Ba Trung), and Le Thanh Ton Street (between Hai Ba Trung and Nguyen Hue). The mentioned streets will be inaccessible from 8am to 10:30am.

Tuoi Tre has provided a map of alternative routes as follows:

For those who need to travel on Dong Khoi Street:

Or:
