Vietnam’s Internet Among Slowest In Asia-Pacific Region

Even before Vietnam’s undersea cable ruptured earlier this month, the country’s internet connection speeds ranked near the bottom in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to cloud service provider Akami Technologies, Inc.’s third quarter “2014 State of the Internet Report,” Vietnam’s internet speed ranked 101st globally, just ahead of the Philippines and India in the region. Though speeds increased 22% compared to Q3/2013, they dropped by 12% from Q2:

Vietnam fared even worse when it came to peak speeds:

And mobile network speeds:

Interestingly, it looks like less developed countries such as Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar didn’t even make the list.

We imagine that the numerous service interruptions to the Asia America Gateway cable contributed to the poor showing. Oh, and sharks.
