Back Society » Tech » Yet Another Period of Sluggish Internet in Vietnam As AAG Cable Undergoes Maintenance

It looks like internet users in Vietnam will have to endure yet another bout of sluggish international connections as local telecom companies just announced that the country’s submarine cable is undergoing maintenance.

The sudden announcement came out of left field last night, Tuoi Tre reports. According to the plan, Vietnam’s AAG (Asia America Gateway) cable is expected to be out of service from 2am on September 15 to 5am on September 19.

During this routine annoyance, local internet connections to international destinations such as Japan, the US, Hong Kong and Europe will be laggy. Well, laggier than usual. When queried about the reason behind this maintenance session, one local telecom said: “it’s according to a notice from the cable operator.”

The AAG cable has caused problems for Vietnam’s internet users numerous times in the past. Just this year, it has already been broken three times, with the latest rupture in August slowing local internet connections for 20 days.
