A new study shows that Vietnam has the lowest rate of adult obesity in the world.
CNN reports that a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that more than 2 billion adults and children globally are overweight or obese. This means that roughly a third of the world's population is overweight.
However, Vietnam performed well in the study, according to VnExpress, tying with Bangladesh for the lowest adult obesity rate in the world: 1%.
The country has a total of 8.1 million overweight or obese adults, 54% of whom are female.
Vietnamese children, however, fared more poorly than adults. According to the study, 6.8% of children aged between 2 and 19 are overweight.
The United States and China topped the list with the largest overweight populations, home to a total of 79.4 million and 57.3 million people, respectively.
