Da Nang authorities recently announced that the city will reclaim a large plot of seaside land from a development project to make room for a public park and beach.
As Dan Tri reports, Da Nang Chairman Huynh Duc Tho gave the nod to a detailed plan to establish a public park and beach in Khue My Ward in the city’s Ngu Hanh Son District. The district includes one of Da Nang’s longest, most beautiful stretches of beach and therefore the area is a real estate hot spot for hospitality developers.
To acquire the land for the public park, municipal authorities will withdraw about 85,000 square meters from the stalled Asian Pearl Resort Project. Specifically, 13,194 square meters of the lot that stretches along the coast will be a public beach while the remaining 71,806 square meters will become a public green space with a large square, playground, parking lot and some venues for events.
Over the past years, residents living along local beaches have voiced complaints over resort construction blocking public paths to the coast, especially when a number of them have been stagnant for a long time. The Asian Pearl Resort project has been stalled since 2014 due to various adjustments to Da Nang’s city planning.
According to Thanh Nien, in the near future, Da Nang officials will create five new paths to the beach in Ngu Hanh Son District, most of them through or in between resorts.
