Inspired by Dubai, Da Nang Plans to Develop an Urban Area Along the City's Bay

Officials hope the move will achieve a success similar to that of Dubai.

On March 19, a conference was held amongst Da Nang city officials to discuss the general directions for the city’s social-economic development until 2035, Tuoi Tre reports. A development plan presented suggests that a coastal urban area along the shore of Da Nang Bay should be built to increase the city’s growth.

Proposed by economic and urban development experts, the plan explains that despite being one of the most beautiful destinations in the world, the bay’s economic and tourism potential hasn’t been fully capitalized on. Thus, turning Da Nang Bay into a seaport urban area with the main focus on hospitality services and real estate would be an opportunity to attract tourists and investors alike.

The city's People's Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho also stressed that he wants the plan to be a long-term vision executed consistently without changing course in the future when new city leaders take over.

Da Nang has been mulling over the idea of transforming the city's bay into an urban hub for the past year. In September 2017, the People's Committee hosted a contest calling for urban development strategies regarding how the city should implement the aforementioned idea, aiming to transform 7,196 hectares of both land and water surface that covers Hai Chau, Thanh Khe, Lien Chieu, and Son Tra districts.
