On Tuesday morning, 31-year-old Nguyen Van Dung parked illegally on Hanoi's Hai Ba Trung Street while trying to pick up a passenger. But when local traffic police approached his vehicle, Dung took off, swerving onto the sidewalk before overtaking a city bus and speeding down the highway.

What followed was a “terrifying high-speed chase” that lasted five kilometres, according to Thanh Nien. Dung also struck several motorbikes during his getaway, which only made matters worse when the police finally apprehended the cab driver.

As soon as the vehicle stopped, angry motorists smashed the windshield and a crowd gathered to watch as the authorities arrest Dung. One local driver managed to capture of a video of the incident for Thanh Nien.
