National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines (VNA) will no longer be adding the Airbus A380, the world’s largest passenger airplane, to its fleet, Thanh Nien reported on Wednesday.

The Airbus order was to be a part of VNA's five-year expansion plan, first approved by Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in 2008. However, due to growing financial pressure, the airline was forced to scale back their original order from 150 aircrafts by 2020 to 122 aircrafts.
Despite the cutback, Vietnam Airlines is still expecting a delivery of eight Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, which were unveiled in June, and 10 Airbus A350 XWBs.
The expansion of VNA's fleet will also require the progress of Long Thanh Airport, which is expected to become operational after 2020, as this will be the main facility for housing the airline's larger aircrafts.
