Along with smoking and public urination, you can now add sexual harassment to the list of mid-air faux pas the Vietnamese airline industry has endured this year.
On Sunday, an elderly male passenger traveling on Vietjet flight VJ 271 from Vinh to Saigon was told he had to wait to go to the restroom as all were occupied at the time, according to Tuoi Tre.
The newspaper described the alleged sexual harassment that ensued:
"He shouted at her right away. The passenger allegedly moved on to use his mobile phone to hit the flight attendant in her buttocks."
"He then spent the rest of the flight in an empty seat instead of his own, and reportedly used the handset to hit three other stewardesses in their sensitive body parts. One of the three is a foreign flight attendant."
Upon hearing about the alleged harassment from his crew, the flight captain alerted security services at Tan Son Nhat Airport who detained the man upon his arrival.
However, he proved to be uncooperative and left the airport without signing the record of his case.
Despite his refusals to sign the record, the man still faces a fine of up to VND5 million and a potential travel ban, according to the Southern Airports Authority.
The fine shouldn’t be much of a problem for the alleged fondler as a source told Tuoi Tre he is the director of a construction company in central Vietnam.
