BackStories » Vietnam » Man Tells Bomb Joke at Airport, Receives 6-Month Flight Ban

A 20-year-old Vietnamese man is banned from flying for the next six months after telling Hanoi airport officials he intended to bomb Bangkok.

Dao Hong Long was denied boarding to a Bangkok-bound flight departing from Noi Bai International Airport after he told security officers at a screening checkpoint he planned to bomb the Thai capital, reports Thanh Nien. When officers asked Long to repeat his response, he did so, prompting security personnel to prevent him from boarding his flight.

Long was also fined VND4 million for “spreading rumors or providing false information about bombs, mines, explosives, radioactive, biological or chemical weapons that not yet affect the normal operation of civil aviation”, according to VietnamNet.

The incident, which took place in March, is not the first of its kind in Vietnam. Last November, a drunken passenger informed airport officials in Vinh that his luggage contained a bomb and received a year-long flight ban for the joke.
