Vinamilk, Vietnam's favorite dairy brand, has been given the go-ahead by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to begin exporting products to the US – a first for the Vietnamese dairy industry.
Under the licensing agreement, the FDA can randomly inspect Vinamilk production facilities at any time.
The news was welcomed by investors and the company’s stock rose 3.1% to VND4,000 per share.
Vinamilk currently has operations in New Zealand and exports products to 26 countries around the world including Canada, France and Germany.
It’s unlikely that the company will build production facilities in the US.
Americans, who are used to a short shelf life for their dairy products, will soon wonder how milk can stay unrefrigerated for months.
