Hoi An authorities and UNESCO representatives announced a plan to implement a tourist “passport” program to replace the current ticketing system which has created controversy since April.
Thanh Nien reports that to avoid pestering tourists who are constantly asked for tickets, visitor “passports” will be stamped at each historical site and will be valid for the entire duration of their stay in Hoi An.

Tourism authorities will also use the passports to collect data about visitor habits.
They’re also considering making the “passports” available in the form of e-tickets.
However, tourists will have to wait a while as the program won't launch until this September at the earliest.
