Another chapter in the Son Doong cable car saga is emerging as officials from Quang Binh Province announced earlier this week that rumors of a cable car line to be built inside the cave were false.
Officials commented that while there are plans to build two cable car lines, they will be located outside of the cave, reports SGGP. The 3.8 km (previously rumored at over 10km) line will stretch from Trang An Bridge to a location 300 meters outside the back entrance of the cave.
Director General Dang Minh Truong of the Sun Group pledged:
“The project will not affect the environment and ecosystem in the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, which UNESCO has recognized as the world natural heritage site.”
News of the project elicited outrage from concerned netizens resulting in a petition that received widespread support with over 10,000 signatures.
