New amendments recently added to a 2013 decree allow foreigners to bring motorhomes into Vietnam for travel purposes (as opposed to cooking meth, perhaps?).

According to Dan Tri News, the amendments to decree 152/2013/ND-CP that regulates foreign vehicles state that passenger vans with nine seats or less, motor homes and motorcycle are allowed to enter Vietnam.

While zipping across the country unburdened by hotel costs sounds good in theory, Vietnam doesn’t seem to have the necessary infrastructure to support the use of motorhomes. Parking overnight on the side of the road isn’t a particularly safe proposition and national parks lack designated parking areas for such vehicles.

The paper added that motorhomes, which carry a US$70,000 – US$100,000 price tag in Vietnam, are becoming an increasingly popular purchase for wealthy Vietnamese.
