Like Vietnam, Thailand is a country famous for its culinary offerings that serve as a major selling point for the country’s tourism industry. It’s an obvious strength to play to and one that a local filmmaker recently focused on in this short video “Pray For Anna.”
There are plenty of ways to go about producing a food-centric promotional video, but director Taya Soon went a direction you probably wouldn’t expect, playing on undertones of human trafficking and kidnapping.
While it’s unclear if the viral film was commissioned by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, it seems like a risky, albeit creative approach to attract people to the kingdom/military junta.
Youtube comments ranged from “Probably the worst way to try to get someone to visit Thailand,” to “WHAT LLLOLLLLLLLLL.”
Either way, it sure beats similar efforts from other SE Asian nations such as Singapore.
