[Photos] Nature Takes Over Abandoned Chinese Fishing Village

On tiny Gouqi Island, one of the 394 Shengsi Islands at the mouth of China's Yangtze River, lies Houtou Wan, a long-lost fishing village which now sits abandoned.

Thanks to urbanization, shifts in industry and time, the quaint settlement is now slowly being taken over by ivy and other plant life, reports My Modern Met. A bustling village 50 years ago, the bay beside Houtou Wan grew empty after it could no longer meet the increasing demand of fishing boats.

Today, small houses dot the island's hills overlooking the water, fading into their natural surroundings. Only a few tourists turn up on the island for its photo ops, while a handful of elderly residents remain on the island. Take a look below:
