Documenting the scenery of a city is pretty straightforward: you find a nice view, aim your camera and shoot. But capturing the energy of a city on film is often easier said than done.
And yet, that’s exactly what Vimeo user Kirill Neiezhmakov manages to do in this four-minute celebration of Hong Kong’s evolution from sleepy fishing village to modern metropolis. Filmed in September 2015, the video features a combination of stationary timelapses overlooking the island’s sweeping cityscapes and hair-raising hyperlapses that whisk you away through shopping centers and down bustling city streets. Accompanied by the kind of music you’d hear outside a Saigon electronics store, Neiezhmakov’s video grabs your attention from start to finish with its high-energy, futuristic quality.
