Yahoo To Close Offices In Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia: Report

Yahoo is slated to close offices in Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia this month in a restructure of its International operations according to Techcrunch, a California-based tech website.

While all offices are scheduled to close by December 14th, the HCMC branch has been closed since the third quarter this year, according to the site. Yahoo hopes that restructuring will streamline its operations in these countries which have produced declining profits in the past year.

While the closings have yet to be confirmed by Yahoo HQ, the shuttering of the HCMC office seems to be a precursor for a similar twist of fate its Indonesian and Malaysian branches.

Key employees from these regions will be relocated to the company’s regional office in Singapore which Yahoo aims to make its key hub in Asia. Yahoo is reported to be laying off the remaining 25, 50, and 15 people in Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia, respectively.

The closings come against the backdrop of Asian expansion by other tech companies, such as Facebook, which are pushing harder than ever to take advantage of the region’s growing market.
