Finding themselves with overflowing bank accounts, some of Vietnam’s wealthy are putting their money into real estate. But not only are they buying land, but building castles.
VietNamNet reports that the practice of building massive homes “designed in the classic architecture in the late 18th century,” are becoming common in Vietnam’s northern regions such as Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Ha Nam, Quang Ninh and Hanoi.
These fugly homes are crazy expensive, and highlight the country’s growing wealth gap. One blinged-out castle in Hanoi’s Cau Giay district cost VND300 billion ($15 million) to build.
We're all for having a nice place to live but there must be better ways to spend that kind of cash.
