Yay or nay?

On September 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Planning and Architecture announced that it's proposing to the city's People Committee a new plan to turn areas neighboring Nguyen Hue Walking Street into green pedestrian zones, Zing reports.

Specifically according to the proposal, Le Loi Street, which links Nguyen Hue and September 23 Park, will be renovated into a green walking street that features several commercial and shopping zones. The landscape of the area behind the Saigon Opera House to Ba Son Metro Station on Ton Duc Thang Street, and the Quach Thi Trang Square in front of Ben Thanh Market near will also be redesigned as green, pedestrian-only spaces. The final result will be a pedestrian axis stretching from Ba Son Station to September 23 Park.

The change will happen in two phases. The first phase involves implementing a new landscape design for the area stretching from the opera house to Ba Son. The department suggests placing water fountains, flower gardens and other architectural details that go with lightning, sound and color elements. The new design is expected to be in operation in 2019.

In the second phase, Le Loi's redesign and the linkage between these areas will be finalized.
