High-Speed Boats To Replace Hydrofoils Between HCMC – Vung Tau

A new fleet of tourist boats is set to replace the notorious, soviet-era hydrofoils that ran between HCMC and Vung Tau before being banned earlier this year after a series of breakdowns and fires.

The 5 new boats will begin service in August and, in good weather, will be able to make the 100km trip in one hour and 10 minutes, reports Thanh Nien.

Tran Song Hai, director of Greenlines DP told Tuoi Tre that the $1 million fleet would include four boats with 150 seats each, three boats with 80 seats each and three boats with 60 seats each.

Before service was suspended, order, ten boats made 19-26 trips every day, carrying nearly 800,000 passengers per year.

It will be nice to take a boat to Vung Tau without having to worry about it catching fire.
