HCMC Taxi Driver Returns Bag With $8,000, iPhone, iPad

On Monday, a Vietnamese-American woman left a bag full of seemingly everything she owned  - $8,000 in cash, an iPad, an iPhone, a Samsung Galaxy 3 and her identity papers - in a Vinasun taxi.

While leaving phones in cabs is a common story among people all over the world, actually getting the items back is something we always like to hear. Upon realizing she left her bag, Lam Thi Ly called the cab company to report her items missing.  Amazingly, she showed up to the company office an hour and a half later to find her bag with all of her belongings still inside

While taxi drivers in HCMC have a bad reputation for meter scams, taking the long way and never having change, it’s reported that over VND3.4 billion ($165,000) worth of property has been returned to their forgetful owners in over 650 cases this year.

We wonder how many of those never found their way back seeing as at least one of us here at Saigoneer may or may not have left a phone in a cab in HCMC recently. [Thanh Nien]
