[Photos] Binh Thanh Woman Gives Free Bread to Poor Workers

Perhaps you've seen the handful of free trà đá tanks around town for thirsty workers, or the less-popular complimentary roadside medicine cabinets to help those in need. Now adding to the range of complimentary services available to those less fortunate is a free bread cabinet in Binh Thanh District.

According to Zing, Lan, the owner of a beauty salon on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street, now stocks her free bread cabinet with 150 loaves a day to help feed local workers. The cabinet has been in its place on the sidewalk for about two weeks now, and since its inception Lan has had to up her daily stock from 100 to 150 loaves due to demand. Everyone from lottery ticket vendors to scrap collectors and elderly workers come to take their share of bread, while the salon's security guard keeps an eye on the cabinet from a distance.

Lan refused to have her picture taken by Zing, saying she just wanted to continue helping the poor. “It's a small thing,” she told the news outlet. “Before, I also went to charity [events] but now that I'm older I can't go anymore, so I came up with this project. Anyone can take the bread, especially poor workers. I hope it can help them to save at least a bit of money and give them energy before a hard day's work.”
