World’s Oldest Woman Dies in Saigon

Nguyen Thi Tru, the world’s oldest woman, passed away on Tuesday at her Saigon home.

The 123-year-old died of natural causes, according to Thanh Nien. Up until her death, Tru was still able to eat her meals and take medication without assistance, though family members say her mind had become less sharp in recent years.

Born in Long An province, Tru moved to Saigon’s Binh Chanh District. In April of last year, the World Records Union confirmed her as the oldest woman in the world.

Tru’s secrets to long life included eating healthy, loving people and being helpful and easygoing.

She is survived by two of her 11 children, both of whom are over 80 years old, as well as 20 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
