Saigon to Spend $370m to Modernize Firefighting Forces

Saigon is ready to put up some serious cash in an effort to modernize its aging firefighting fleet over the next 10 years.

Based on the municipal government's Master Plan of Ho Chi Minh City Firefighting Forces to 2025, the city will receive two firefighting ships, 258 fire engines, 61 pumps, six boats, two rescue boats and a host of other equipment by 2020, reports VietnamNet. By 2025, the city will add another 131 vehicles as well as another boat.

Under the plan, “the city will also restructure and develop the system of firefighting and rescue police forces,” the online newspaper added, though there were no further details provided on this restructuring.

Saigon also plans to add six firefighting helicopters to the fold at a cost of US$50 million per aircraft, however this purchase falls outside of the aforementioned master plan.
