Over the weekend, the holiday spirit officially arrived in Saigon along with a shipment of over 200 real Christmas trees from Oregon.
According to Thanh Nien, a local firm recently imported over 200 American pine trees for sale and has so far offloaded more than half of its stock.
Nguyen Anh Lan, a representative of the company, Green Life Investment, told the news outlet his firm had two 2.4-meter-tall Christmas trees delivered to Saigon by air last year and they were a hit, however the cost of transportation was a staggering VND200 million.
This year, the company chose to up the number of trees and instead go with boat transportation, significantly reducing the import cost. The trees, which range from 1.8 to 2.7 meters tall, are all roughly nine years old, according to the news source, and are on sale for VND3.3-8 million per tree.
According to Lan, the cost of a real tree is only marginally more expensive than a high-quality fake tree and can last up to eight weeks with proper care.
