Saigon’s Mien Dong Bus Station, or Eastern Bus Station, will be getting an upgrade by the end of this year.
The Saigon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (SAMCO), sole investor in the project, just announced construction of the new municipal bus station will begin in the second quarter of 2017 and finish by the end of the year, reports Tuoi Tre.
The newspaper also added that the facility will span an area of 16 hectares and cost VND4 trillion (US$176.4 million) to complete. The site will cover parts of Saigon’s District 9 and Binh Duong province. When finished, the new bus terminal will also be linked with the first metro line, which connects District 9’s Suoi Tien Theme Park with Ben Thanh Market in downtown District 1.
On the other side of the city, the new Western Bus Station project, or Mien Tay Bus Station, is going through the site clearance phase. The lot is expected to be ready for construction in the third quarter of 2017.
