HCMC Seeks To Lure Scientists With $7,015 Monthly Salaries

As HCMC seeks to position itself as the country’s science and technology hub, it is offering massive incentives to lure scientists.

On Wednesday, Le Manh Ha, Deputy Chairman of the city’s People’s Committee, signed off on a new policy that will pay scientists up to VND150 million ($7,015) per month, making them some of the highest paid workers in the city, based on a recent salary report from HR research firm Adecco.

Authorities hope that the high pay will attract local Vietnamese or those working abroad to fill positions at the High Tech Park, the High Tech Agriculture Zone, the Institute for Computational Science and Technology and the Biotechnology Center of Ho Chi Minh City.

The generous salaries will be negotiated between scientists and the above companies but all hires will have to be approved by the People’s Committee.
