Vietnamese starchitect, Vo Trong Nghia, had quite a 2014 with a number of his firm’s designs receiving international commendation. It looks like he’s off to a great start in 2015 as American news network, CNN, is set to include Nghia in their upcoming “Ones to Watch” series.

The program “shines a light on up-and-coming creative talent set to be the next big names in culture and the arts,” the network wrote in a press release last week.
“From the temples of ancient Greece to the jagged skylines of Dubai, every structure on the planet was conceived by a creative mind – an architect. Today’s architects are battling to balance the desire for aesthetic with the need to live sustainably. Growing populations and fragile environments are changing the way people design,” it continued.
Vo Trong Nghia’s firm, which won numerous awards in 2014, has been praised for their use of sustainable materials in their builds and for brining Vietnam’s urban residents back into harmonious contact with nature.
Along with Nghia, “Ones to Watch” will focus on the works of Nigerian architect Kunle Adeyemi, who similarly designs his buildings with environmental context in mind. New York-based architect Daniel Libeskind, who led the redevelopment of the World Trade Center site after 9/11 with also be featured on the program (though the New York Times may not share CNN’s praise for that project).
The series will premier on January 9.
