Vietnam's athletes have won an impressive haul of medals over the last two days at the 2017 SEA Games, currently underway in Kuala Lumpur.

Tuoi Tre reports that the team won eight gold medals on Tuesday, seven of which were nabbed by female athletes.

Four golds were wrapped up in the morning by male gymnast Dang Nam and three female competitiors: fencer Nguyen Thi Nhu Hoa, karate artist Nguyen Thi Hong Anh and petanque player Nguyen Thi Thi, according to the news source.

In the pool, superstar swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien crushed her rivals in the women's 200-meter breastroke, breaking her own SEA Games record with a time of 2:13.64. She went on to take gold in the 400-meter freestyle final later that night with a time of 4:10.96, roughly five seconds faster than the silver medalist.

These triumphs came after Vien broke another SEA Games record on Monday while taking gold in the women's 100-meter breastroke final.

Meanwhile sprinter Le Tu Chinh won gold in the women's 100-meter competition with a time of 11.56 seconds. By Wednesday morning, team Vietnam was third in the overall medal table with 46, while host Malaysia led with 93.

Yesterday, however, Vietnam added to this total, with Chinh winning the women's 200-meter sprint, Dan Tri shares.

Vu Thi Ly and Duong Van Thai also took gold in the women's and men's 800-meter race, respectively, while other athletes piled up 12 further golds, eight silver medals and two bronze medals.

On the soccer pitch, Vietnam's high-profile men's team drew with Indonesia 0-0 on Tuesday, reports ESPN. The squad's destiny in the tournament will be decided when they play Thailand today.

As of the time of writing, Vietnam has collected 28 gold medals in Kuala Lumpur.
