Guess Which Airline Is the Most Delayed in Vietnam This Year

Jetstar Pacific has once again claimed the top spot in Vietnam’s list of most-delayed airlines.

According to a new report by the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV), during the first 10 months of 2017, flights from local carriers took off on schedule a total of 18,392 times, which amounts to 89.4% of all flights.

Dan Tri reported that the Vietnam Air Services Company (VASCO) performed the best in terms of punctuality, with 98.9% of its flights arriving on time. Vietnam Airlines came in second with 90.1%, or 9,141, flights operated according to schedule.

Only 88.6% of VietJet Air flights took off on time during this period while Jetstar Pacific continues to be the most-delayed carrier in Vietnam, with punctual flights accounting for 84.9% of its total routes.

CAAV also gave an overview of why flights were delayed or canceled: the most frequently cited reasons include late return of aircraft and bad management on the part of the airlines. Other less common causes were inadequate capacity and services at airports or weather and technical hiccups.

Tuoi Tre also reports that during the first 10 months of 2017, Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, Jetstar Pacific and VASCO canceled 496, 139, 332 and 183 flights, respectively.

A similar previous report by CAAV showed that Jetstar Pacific was responsible for the most delayed flights in Vietnam after the first quarter of the year, with only 72.1% of all flights arriving on time.

As of November 1, Vietnam’s new law on flight delays took effect. The new policy mandates that passengers whose flights are delayed by more than three hours are entitled to free food and drinks provided by the responsible airline.
