As of yesterday, electronic cards have been available for use on the Kim Ma-Yen Nghia BRT route.
The e-cards will help link the public bus systems with future forms of transport in the capital, such as the long-awaited metro, according to Hanoi Transport and Services Corporation (Transerco).
According to Dan Tri, passengers wishing to get their hands on an e-card can ask employees at Kim Ma, Nui Truc, Hoang Dao Thuy or Yen Nghia bus stations. It’s also possible to register for a new card online.
For those taking only one journey, single-use e-tickets are also available and can be scanned at bus stops. The cards themselves, however, can be topped up for ongoing use.
So far, the new system is only a pilot program being carried out on one bus route. If, after six months to one year, the scheme proves successful, e-cards may be adopted across all BRT routes and metro systems.
As the pilot program will only be functioning on one route, a QR code stamp will be pasted onto the regular bus cards of inter-district monthly-pass holders.
Currently, the minimum cost of a bus ride in Hanoi is VND7,000, but this will be halved when using the E-cards for shorter journeys.
