If you needed anymore proof that Vietnamese are the masters of recycling and reuse, here it is. At District 10’s Nhật Tảo Market, technicians spend their day stripping down old computer monitors to create TV sets.
After collecting the monitors from waste collectors, the workers remove the tubes which are valued at around VND170,000 a piece.
Those that are beyond repair are smashed and sold to glass melting businesses.
The tubes are then refurbished and polished before put into plastic enclosures.
The TVs, which are sold between VND200,000 and VND1 million, represent a cheap option for the city’s poorer residents.
