Lam Dong People's Committee recently issued a major development plan for the Hoa Binh area in central Da Lat.
According to the plan, the iconic Hoa Binh Theater will be knocked down and replaced by a commercial-entertainment complex, Tuoi Tre reports. The development master plan was approved in 2014 and details a development vision of Da Lat and nearby areas from now until 2030.
The total scope of the project covers more than 30 hectares, divided into five zones. The first zone, which includes Da Lat Market, functions as a traditional market area and flower square. It will have a pedestrian-only plaza connected with a commercial center and underground parking lot.
The to-be-demolished Hoa Binh Theater as well as the area around it, which forms the heart of the city, will be turned into a center of commercial activities and entertainment catered to tourists and residents.
The former provincial governor's palace up a hill on Ly Tu Trong Street built in 1910 will be relocated to pave way for a commercial zone and a new hotel. The fourth zone, called the urban beautification zone, will focus on enhancing appearances of buildings and residential areas. The area along Xuan Huong Lake will welcome the construction of hotels, lodging facilities and new public facilities.
According to Le Quang Trung, director of the Lam Dong Department of Construction, of all the iconic landmarks affected by the project, the Hoa Binh Theater will be dismantled while the Da Lat Market will be kept intact. The governor's palace, however, will be moved as a whole structure to a new position within the same compound.
