In the midst of its usual traffic woes, Saigon may be getting glimmer of hope in a 30-kilometer flyover project, which will help to alleviate traffic on the notoriously busy Highway 1A.
City officials recently approved a proposal for the BOT project, presented by Cuu Long Corporation for Investment, Development and Project Management of Infrastructure, reports DTI.
Estimated at USD$895 million, the flyover would run 30 kilometers from Thu Duc District across the city to Binh Tan District, helping to expedite traffic headed for the Mekong Delta and keep those vehicles off Saigon's inner city streets. Three additional unnamed investors are also involved in the project.
According to VOV, the 17.5-meter-wide, four-lane flyover would reach completion by 2020. DTI reports that construction is arranged to take place in three main phases over the next four years.
This is good news for travelers to the Delta and anyone who takes Highway 1A on a regular basis, as the major thoroughfare was already operating at over double its design capacity by 2012, seeing 86,300 vehicles everyday.
