Last Saturday, crowds of thirsty Saigoneers flocked to Saigon Outcast for its first-ever Beer Fest, which celebrated the city's growing number of craft beer producers.
Beyond serving up brews from local outfits like Pasteur Street Brewery, Te Te, Phat Rooster and Fuzzy Logic, attendees were able to gorge themselves on barbecue and other treats while listening to NOLA Blues Club's live music as well as stand-up comedy from Stand-Up Saigon.
About 950 people turned up for the hipster hangout's local answer to Oktoberfest. The torrential downpour that happened halfway through did little to stop the buzzed masses from imbibing; if anything, it brought everyone closer together – literally – as people huddled beneath the covered outdoor areas to avoid the rain.
The party carried on into the evening, with an upbeat vibe despite the weather, which eventually cleared. All told, Beer Fest was a nice recognition of Saigon's small but fast-developing craft beer scene. We'll drink to that.
