Saigon’s Caravelle Hotel Set to Undergo Major Renovations

The Caravelle Hotel is about to undergo a major facelift starting this summer as it begins its most significant renovation in 15 years, according to AmCham Vietnam.

The first of the 4 phase makeover started on May 12 to coincide with the anniversary of its opening in May 1959. A new ground-floor lobby, café Lobby Lounge (which will be rebranded as the Café de l’Opera featuring a champagne corner and tapas kitchen) and Nineteen restaurant are scheduled to be completed by this August.

Details are sparse on what the next 3 phases will encompass, other than upgrades to hotel rooms, but all upgrades should be finished by mid-2016.

The hotel has been beefing up its certifications over the past four years, receiving ISO 14001:2004 certification, EarthCheck Silver Certification, Vietnam’s Green Lotus Certification, and most recently, the ASEAN Green Hotel Award for 2014.

Sadly, we doubt there will be changes to the building’s dull exterior.
