HCMC Official Sets up Feedback Hotline, Receives Deluge of Complaints

Got a complaint? There's now a phone number for that, and boy, have people been putting it to use.

Ever since Ho Chi Minh City's Party Secretary Dinh La Thang announced the launch of a 24-hour hotline to receive public feedback on citywide issues, the calls have flooded in, reports Thanh Nien. In its first two days of operation alone, the hotline racked up 1,200 calls and 800 messages.

Secretary Thang, whose unit is in charge of the hotline, has allegedly received each complaint and is personally handling them.

According to one hotline employee, who spoke with Tuoi Tre, most callers took issue with urban management matters. However, with the deluge of queries and complaints coming in, not everyone's voice is being heard: one Tuoi Tre reporter attempted to call 50 times before getting through to speak with someone.

Due to the line's popularity, city officials are encouraging only callers to phone in with urgent issues for the time being while a more permanent hotline is set up. The city government plans to create a hotline with a shorter, more memorable phone number in future.

In the meantime, feel free to call in and complain: 08 88 247 247. Secretary Thang is listening.
