What with the brand-new natural gas-powered buses now plying Saigon's streets and the recently opened Route 35 bus connecting District 2 with the downtown area, Saigon is stepping up its bus game.
On Wednesday, transport officials kicked it up another notch with the announcement of a new bus service between downtown Saigon and Tan Son Nhat International Airport, reports Thanh Nien.
In response to low ridership on its previous airport-bound bus route, city transport authorities developed Route 109, which departs from the bus station at 23-9 Park directly opposite District 1's backpacker area. The newly purchased South Korean buses will then pass by Ben Thanh Market en route to Tan Son Nhat. Each vehicle can carry up to 70 passengers.
Route 109 stays open from 5:30am to 1:30am everyday. A standard fare is VND20,000 for the full ride or VND12,000 for less than half the route. Bus 109 takes approximately 45 minutes to reach the airport and buses depart from the 23-9 Park station every 15 to 20 minutes.
