Lotteria Fined $6,500 for Mass Food Poisoning

Last week, city officials fined South Korean fast food chain Lotteria VND146 million (US$6,545) after a mass food poisoning.

The incident took place on March 12, reports Thanh Nien, sending 60 people to nearby hospitals in District 9 and Thu Duc District. All of the affected individuals were employees of Sonion Vietnam, a Danish company based in Saigon's Hi-Tech Park, who began to show symptoms of food poisoning shortly after lunch.

When local police investigated several local Lotteria eateries, the authorities uncovered a handful of violations, including missing food safety certificates and “inadequate food preservation equipment”, according to Thanh Nien.
