Over the next three weeks, city authorities will demolish 500 illegally-built houses in Binh Chanh, Thu Duc, Binh Tan, Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, Go Vap and Tan Phu Districts.
A few weeks ago, city authorities discovered hundreds of illegal homes had been built without construction licenses or on lands not zoned for housing. The demolitions have come quickly to dissuade residents from building illegally in the future.
Binh Chanh alone had 830 illegal constructions of which 430 have already been destroyed. The remaining homes will be demolished by August 15, according to a report the district’s People's Committee.
Tran Trong Tuan, director of the Department of Construction, said that 37 illegally-constructed homes will be allowed to stand since they were constructed in residential zones.
