Currently, 21-year-old Nguyen Thi Anh Vien holds 38 gold medals and was named Best Vietnamese Athlete in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017.
On August 12, swimmer Anh Vien announced the release of From Zero to Hero — a biography which documents the top swimmer's journey from her childhood to becoming a gold medal winner, VietnamNet reports. The book was written by two sports journalists named Dang Hoa and Dinh Hiep.
The 200-page book consists of eight chapters and is divided into two parts. In the first section, the book tells the life and the career of Anh Vien, dating back to when she was five years old in her hometown in Can Tho, where she was taught swimming by her grandfather in a nearby stream.
"There are many who were successful before Anh Vien and there will be more after her. However, Anh Vien is an exemplary illustration of sports meritocracy. As sports enthusiasts and we can't let her appeal goes unnoticed. The book is our documentation of Anh Vien's journey and we hope that it can inspire others," said co-author Dang Hoang during the book launching event.
The second part of the book focuses on sports culture and physical training development in Vietnam, emphasizing the importance of teaching swimming skills in Vietnam, a country with abundant surfaces of water.
