Back Travel » [Photos] Crossing This Quảng Ngãi Bridge Will Make You Question Your Life Decisions

This bridge suspension bridge, which traverses the Re river, is notorious among locals for its rotten wood planks, held together by a steel wire. However, despite the danger, residents of Gọi Re village (Ba Tơ suburban district, Quảng Ngãi) have no choice but to cross it each day, reports VN Express.

The bridge, if one can even call it that, is 50m long and 15m high. Though many have fallen through the large spaces in between slats into the river, amazingly no fatal accidents have been recorded.

While the obvious solution would be to build a new bridge, Lê Hàn Phong, Chairman of the Ba Tơ suburban district’s People’s Committee, said that it would be prohibitively with a total cost of VND15 billion, far outside of the current budget.

Unsafe bridges are a common sight in Vietnam’s rural areas and in some cases, people even resort to crossing rivers in plastic bags.
