Man Boards Plane to Hong Kong, Loses $250,000 Mid-Flight

Last week, one airline passenger arrived in Hong Kong with his pockets considerably lighter, after an inflight thief robbed him of US$250,000 on board the aircraft.

Turkish economy class passenger Mustasa Saci, who boarded an Emirates flight in Dubai, disembarked from his plane in Hong Kong only to discover he was missing US$200,000 in foreign currency and two luxury watches, a Rolex and a Patek Philippe, reports Asian Correspondent.

Saci had placed his carry-on baggage in an overhead compartment and paid it no mind until after landing. When he realized the items were missing, the man immediately informed airline representatives, who contacted the police shortly after 6am local time.

While Saci is not the first to experience this kind of mid-flight robbery, his missing valuables account for the largest inflight theft to date in Hong Kong. In recent years, airport officials have reported a growing number of similar cases, according to the South China Morning Post
