The board said that construction personnel are working 24/7 to complete the first metro line between Ben Thanh Market and Suoi Tien, focusing on the flyover adjacent to the Saigon Bridge, reports Saigon Giai Phong.

Additionally, the underground station in front of the HCMC People’s Committee headquarters will be built by February 5 (which doesn't seem humanly possible) in order to hand over the area for the Nguyen Hue Street upgrading project which has a firm launch date of April 30, the 40th anniversary of the country’s reunification.

The board added that it will sign contracts with consultant companies to kick off investment for routes 2 and 5 in the next 12 months.

According to the ambitious HCMC transport development plan, the city will have eight metro lines and three monorail routes by 2020.

We’d be thrilled to see even one route completed by then.
