[Video] 3-D Animation Spotlights Thu Thiem 2 Bridge

A new video by Sub Zero Animation posted on REIC brings to life the proposed Thu Thiem 2 Bridge, which is set to reach completion in 2018. The bridge will serve as a direct route between District 1's Ton Duc Thang Street and the Thu Thiem New Urban Area in District 2.

Assuming the video is accurate, the 1,456-meter bridge will include four lanes flanked by two entry-exit ramps, pedestrian access and a soaring, arched tower which stands 113 meters tall. Thu Thiem 2 will be located just southeast of Ton Duc Thang's intersection with Le Thanh Ton and Nguyen Huu Canh Streets.

Also in the works are additional projects to improve transportation infrastructure in the city. Under a larger plan, city officials hope to construct five bridges connecting the Thu Thiem New Urban Area with District 1, District 4, District 7 and Binh Thanh District.

Last month, Saigon's Department of Traffic and Transportation requested permission to conduct an investment survey for Thu Thiem 4, which would link Tran Nao Street in District 2 with Huynh Tan Phat Street in District 7, hinting at future efforts to develop the area.

Although construction was set to begin in February this year, delays have kept the Thu Thiem 2 project on the shelf (). With its completion date a few years off, we can only imagine what downtown Saigon will actually look like in 2018. But if this video is to be believed, the future is promising.
