Da Nang Theme Park Unveils Flashy New Monorail

Between the Disneyland-esque entertainment complex planned for Ha Long Bay and Phu Quoc's ever-increasing number of larger-than-life attractions, Vietnam seems to have a thing for amusement parks these days. And rest assured, where there is a Vietnamese theme park, there is an unusual mode of transportation.

Enter Da Nang's Asia Park and its brand-new monorail. According to Lao Dong Thu Do, the 1.8-kilometer-long single-rail route debuted on New Year's Day and surveys the park's other impressively large attractions, including a colossal indoor play area and an enormous ferris wheel, which is among the world's largest.

The new monorail, built by Swiss outfit Intamin Transportation, can handle up to 2,000 passengers an hour and includes eight trains with 11 cabins each. Its design features eco-friendly technology and is but one part of the Sun Group property, whose first phase of investment totals VND4 trillion (US$177.8 million).

Beyond all these other bells and whistles, Asia Park's newest addition is the only monorail in Vietnam that can ascend and descend inclines with the help of some fancy modern gadgets, and each cabin is also equipped with a modern sound system. There's no mention of what is played over this sound system, but we have a guess:
