Traffic patterns around Tan Son Nhat International Airport were altered over the weekend to make way for the construction of two overpasses aimed at easing congestion around the facility.
Tuoi Tre reports that detours were put into place on Saturday as work on the two overpasses ramps up. One overpass will be built at the Nguyen Thai Son roundabout in Go Vap District, while the other will rise from Truong Son Street directly in front of the airport.
These projects are expected to help improve traffic flow around Tan Son Nhat once completed, but they are likely to cause further headaches as they are built. As of Saturday, vehicles approaching the airport on Truong Son must now take a detour through Hong Ha, Yen The and Bach Dang Streets in order to reach the domestic and international terminals, according to the news source. Meanwhile, those heading to Tan Son Nhat from the Nguyen Thai Son roundabout will be redirected to Bach Dang Street in order to avoid construction on Truong Son, Tuoi Tre adds.
Passengers departing the airport will be impacted as well, with Truong Son being rerouted to Tran Quoc Hoan and either Hoang Van Thu or Cong Hoa Streets, while those traveling towards Go Vap must take Hong Ha Street.
Several stretches of road near the Nguyen Thai Son roundabout will also become one-way during the construction process, which is expected to take six months.
