Back Society » Tech » Surprise! A New Homemade Social Media Platform in Vietnam Is Called 'Lotus'

Following Hahalolo and Gapo, another Vietnamese social media platform has entered the market with a rather "inventive" name.

Vietnam Communications Corporation (VCCorp), the owner of numerous online and e-commerce platforms such as Kenh14, Soha News, Admicro, Mua Chung and Rong Bay, recently announced that they are launching their own social media platform called Lotus, Tuoi Tre reports.

According to Nguyen The Tan, CEO of VCCorp, Lotus will focus on content and connecting content creators and platforms.

“Content on Lotus includes content from normal users, bloggers; and content from official news agencies, brands and professional content creators. We create opportunities for professional content creators to publicize their information on Lotus and capitalize on the benefits: gaining traffics, fans, money…,” said Tan.

The project has attracted VND700 billion in investment from VCCorp and several investors within the country. The corporation is refusing to reveal investor details prior to the platform's September 16 beta version launch date.

About 200 engineers specializing in AI, Big Data, Cloud Computing are contributing to the project.

Early this year, VCCorp announced that they would roll out a social network called Viva Vietnam in partnership with Vingroup. When questioned about that undertaking this week, Tan explained that Viva was Lotus' preliminary name, selected to encourage national pride among employees.
