If you're the type to spring for a beachfront resort on holiday, you know that nobody wants to stay in the garden villa. It's almost a tease, being led so close to those sweeping ocean views only to have your room face in the opposite direction.
But MIA Design Studio, the architecture firm behind Da Nang's Naman Residences, has managed to solve this problem, reports ArchDaily. Located on Non Nuoc Beach, the stretch of coast near the Marble Mountains, the newly completed residential complex includes 40 villas in four different designs.
Of course, having a sea view means developers are keen to make the most out of ocean-facing propery but Naman's garden villas, which are located on the beach but lack a direct line of sight to the water, pose an interesting challenge.
Determined to overcome these difficulties, MIA constructed sleek, minimalist two-storey villas which maximize the property's proximity to the ocean as well as promoting natural ventilation. By creating two separate spaces – one that's quieter and more private, one that's brighter and multi-functional – and leaving a void in between, the building essentially becomes two individual spaces fused together by natural elements like water and plant life.
Bedrooms sit on the upper block, facing the ocean for a far-away view of the water, while an open kitchen and living room occupy the ground floor. Outside, a barbecue and swimming pool round out the villa's living spaces.
Easily the coolest part of the building, however, is its rooftop waterscape, which is meant to cool the building during the day.
